AUDITIONS!!
Almost, Maine
January 18th at 3 PM, Monday, January 19th at the Bedford County Playhouse at 6 PM.
Auditions for Almost, Maine by John Cariani
What to prepare: Come prepared to perform cold readings from the script.
Seeking: 2-10 male-identifying and 2-8 Female-identifying actors. Age: 18+
Performance Dates: April 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19
Synopsis: On a clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not what it seems in the remote town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways.
Intimacy
Roles marked with an (*) include choreographed moments of intimacy. Roles marked with a (♱) include a comedic disrobing sequence in which both characters remove their outer clothing down to long underwear. All intimate moments will be staged according to each actor’s comfort level. Performer agency will be prioritized at all times, and any violation of boundaries or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Stage management will oversee daily intimacy check-ins.
Male-Identifying Roles
Each male actor cast will potentially play multiple characters, including:
Pete*: Almost pessimistic, but he truly loves Ginette, although it's hard for him to admit.
Steve: Open, clueless, and kind. He is clueless to the world due to his inability to feel pain, which is attributed to his disorder.
Jimmy: A guy whose broken heart makes it hard for him to speak his mind.
Dave*♱: Not so tough, but loves Rhonda for who she is.
East*: A repairman, calm and sincere.
Lendall*: Longtime best friend to Gayle, an understanding and collected person who is trying to understand his girlfriend.
Randy**: Broke his date’s face while dancing. Ends up having feelings for his best friend Chad, but it's hard for him to admit it.
Chad**: Was told he smelled by his date. He tells his best friend he has feelings for him.
Phil: A working man who gets in a fight with his wife after ice skating.
Man: The ex of Hope, who has left the town, but his life has gone on and changed without her.
**Randy & Chad: These roles include portrayal of a same-gender relationship; performers should be comfortable with this material. No physical intimacy involved. Note: Could also be performed by 2 female-identifying actors.
Female-Identifying Roles
Each female actor cast will potentially play multiple characters, including:
Ginette*: Optimistic and loving toward Pete. A bit of a chatterbox who rambles on when she's nervous.
Sandrine: Jimmy’s Ex, who left him suddenly but is put together and sensitive towards Jimmy.
Gayle*: Longtime girlfriend to Lendall, a short-tempered, passionate, and flustered woman who wants to be married.
Hope: A jittery woman who left her boyfriend to go off into the world, and has come back to see him.
Glory*: A vulnerable, nervous and guilty hiker.
Waitress: No nonsense, sassy waitress who is meant for Jimmy.
Marvalyn: A self-protective nurse who is in a rough patch in her relationship.
Marci: The hardworking wife of Phil who is angry with him over all the things his work has caused him to miss.
Rhonda*♱: A tough, closed-off, and nervous woman who is awkward around Dave.
General Audition Information:
All auditions are open to anyone in the community regardless of race or ethnic background. No previous stage experience is required to try out for any BCP production. Our directors are open to non-traditional castings and everyone is encouraged to submit themselves for all projects.
Knowledge of the material is encouraged but not required.
Players do not have to be the ages of the characters, just be able to portray the age range listed.
Play Auditions:
You do not need to prepare anything. Actors will be instructed to read pieces from the script at auditions.
Musical Auditions:
You must come prepared to sing 16-32 bars of a musical theatre piece that displays your vocal range.
Clearances:
Any individual who is cast in a show with anyone under the age of 18 must receive both their Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance. As a volunteer for the theatre there should be no cost. If you do not obtain your clearances, you WILL NOT be able to act in a show with anyone under 18 in the cast. Both clearances can be obtained online, click button below for more information. Please note, while uncommon, some clearances may take more than 14 days.
